Gas Log set for 2way fireplace
We were never happy with our wood burning 2way fireplace. So hard to clean, expense of the wood, persistent odor of smoke, etc. I was apprehensive at my advanced years (almost 80 years old) that I might not be able to self install the unit. I completed the installation about six weeks ago and could not be more satisfied. The install was not at all difficult for a good handyman. Instructions were decent. I determined to take it very slow and deliberate so it took me longer than it may have a younger person, but some of the time was spent making a trip to a hardware store to get the pipe to the gas log lighter shortened and threaded. The most difficult part of the whole process was installing the damper limiter. Simple to do if your hands work, but with arthritis and other old-age problems, I had a bit of a tussle (and I paid the price of aches and pains for two or three days following--getting old ain't for sissies!) I chose to not install a pilot, simply using the key operated valve that already controlled the gas log lighter and lighting with a long-necked lighter. I'm satisfied with this setup. By the way, I'm not a professional. I'm just a better than average handy man. My career was almost a fifty year stint as a pastor. The log set is impressively natural looking. My own son did not notice that I'd made the conversion. My wife and I both love it!!

I installed the log set myself (we already had a gas starter in the fireplace) and found that the directions provided were accurate and easy to follow. We have now used the fireplace/log set on several occasions and are very pleased with the result.
