Does not stay black if you actually use it. It will turn whiteish and rusty. This would be fine for a decorative fireplace. Buy something american made if you plan to burn with it.

Thank you!! I picked the perfect time to look!! The item was not only on sale there was free shipping! The package was shipped very promptly and was received exactly as expected. We did order the feet and because of the set up in our fireplace we aren't able to use them. Because of the weight of them it isn't worth it to send them back so they really aren't of much value but loving the fireback!

Adequate & cost-effective fireback
The fireback arrived in fine condition, even though the packaging was flimsy and was broken open. We were lucky. The fireback has no design, which we had feared may be too plain. But we actually like it. It gives a nice glow to the fire. It was very cost-effective - a great value, especially when compared with the higher end models. If we were to do it again, we would order the same product (and keep our fingers crossed about the packaging). It did take a long time to arrive.
Cast Iron Fireback
Love it. The fireback came promptly in the mail (one has to wonder what the mail carrier must have thought about it--it weighs about 50 lbs.), and is as described. I've had many hot fires this cold winter and it's doing its job. I hope it lasts a long, long time.

Alternative for Open Fireplace
We have noticed a big difference in the heat being generated from our fireplace. We use to have an open fireplace many years ago and switched to a wood stove with a glass door. The door would smut over by the end of the day and had to clean frequently. The heat coming from the blowers were great. We are now renting until we build and have enjoyed the open fireplace again, but we lose a lot of heat. This fireball has increased the heat, quite a bit and while it can't blow heat, unless your trying to heat your entire home, this is a great alternative.
Cast iron fire place plate
I'm pleased with my purchase, keep in mind it doesn't have the Woodland stamp on the fire plate as shown in the discription / picture the one I was sent didn't have mine was plain.
