Came to my home rapidly and in perfect shape. Fit the hole in my fireplace, although a bit smaller than I expected. It has not yet fallen through the hole, so I am optimistic. Would like the web site to say something about the variability of this hole size, but could find nothing anywhere at all. Bottom line is that it appears to fit the bill.

After cleaning out my fireplace I noticed my ash dump door adjar. I lifted the door and it fell into the hole. I was totally taken by surprise on how rusted it was and how easily it crumbled. I decided to find one immediately and it was so much harder than I thought since no hardware stores carry this item. I did a search online and found this website and found the item so easily. Having to replace the ash dump door in our 35-year old fireplace started out as an almost hopeless project - and right in the middle of winter. Ash Dump

It is a perfect copy of the original which was 45 years old.

Ash Dump Cover

This ash dump door does not attach to the framing. It has two small prongs that fit down into small depressions. It actually came loose when I was opening it and fell into the dump below. My previous ash dump was attached with hinges which prevented this from happening. It gets the job done but would be a great improvement if the door was attached with hinges.

Warped casting

The basic design is nice but the casting is pretty rough. The door wouldn't shut all the way and the parts are slightly warped. We cleaned it up with a grinder.
