Fireplace grate

Initially we had problems with smoke in the house. After moving the back of the grate to the back of the fire box it worked perfectly and the wood burned down to all ashes. The elevated style did promote greater air flow to the wood making for a very efficient fire. Very satisfied with the grate; it is well made and the construction is strong and well designed.

I am amazed at how much better my fire burns with this grate. Perfect clearance for my gas starter and the grate holds the coals close to the wood allowing for a much better burn. Wood that wouldn't burn well with my old grate now burns very well. It's not often I am this happy with a purchase.

Nothing special

When I got it it was a nice deep black. After a couple uses it is now more of an off-white. Not sure what makes it like that but it looked a lot better black.

Packaging

Grates are very sturdy otherwise they would not have survived your packaging. The grates were just put into the box with no cushioning. The box arrived crushed on one end. I thought Oh No !! But they were Ok.

This item arrived very quickly after my order. It was exactly what I wanted. One negative was that there was no packing material in the shippING carton. The grate was just flopping around in the box and the box arrived in damaged condition. The grate was not damaged. But better care shold have been employed.

Nice Grate

This grate replaces a 30 year old grate that was burned through years ago. Order process was easy and shipment was very prompt. I was very pleased after the first fire with my new grate.

Quality Product

I live in Michigan, and burn almost every weekend during the winter. I love a warm fire. Over the past 5 years I have replaced 2 welded grates. One, I even welded and reinforced the second one with heavy bar stock. It still melted and eroded away in spots. I wanted something better. I reviewed many cast iron products. This one received great reviews and is made in the US. I will happily support American workers but the quality is great as well. Win win! After a few fire cycles it appears untouched. The finish quality is good, no major flashing left on the product from the casting process. Shipping? it was great, it arrived in two days and in a heavy box. I expect this to last for a long, long time.

Perfect Grate

I bought this grate because I have a gas "log lighter" and my last grate allowed the embers through which overheated the pipe and caused it to bend and rot out. This grate keeps the embers in place well above and is a great fit for my manufactured fireplace. The airflow through the grate is also very good. I recommend it.

looks great and built solidly, but wood falls off very easily and rolls off onto firebricks unless very(very) carefully placed
