Fireplace Grate

Fireplace Grate

We had never had a grate with a mesh screen but we are glad we bought this one. The fire burned longer and more evenly and only fine ash dropped to the bottom of the firebox. Not an inexpensive item, but well worth it. And, it makes a Sherman tank look flimsy by comparison in its strength of construction!

Fireplace Grate

Best ever. We make a very hot fire in a 36" wide fire place. We keep it burning all night long with 20" long logs and the heat does not affect the grate at all. Ten times better than the cheap grate from a hardware store. This grate will last a lifetime. Well worth the money.

Spent months trying to get someone who knew how to correctly tell me what grate I needed when I gave them my fireplace dimensions. Most people would give me two or three size options. Then hem and haw around about why they advised that size. I gave the Woodland's customer service rep my dimensions and he immediately gave me the 32" grate the recommendation and why!! I ordered the grate with the ember retainer and it arrived exactly as when stated. The grate looks and fits perfect! With the correct dimensions in place the air draw is fantastic and starting my fire has never been easier. The grate is a beast. Heavily built and beautiful to look at. I researched for months, my engineering back ground and over analytical brain causes this, before ordering any grate, but once I saw this grate I knew immediately it was built well and should look great. Needless to say I am very pleased with the build quality and the superior customer service. Thank you for making choosing this grate so easy.

Wonderful

So far this grate looks and feels substantial. A huge upgrade from our previous home depot grate. We have a large outdoor fireplace that we love to use during cold Chicago winters. Very impressed so far!

Center Leg

I don't understand if there are nine bars across the grate, why don't you weld the center support leg under the center bar instead of offsetting it on one side? Not only does it look strange, but physically, it doesn't span the steel evenly, leaving the longer span more vulnerable to sagging from heat than the shorter one.

For each of 8 years I bought a China piece of junk, cast iron, grate that split,cracked and ripped itself apart within 30 days. It had to be replaced once a year. This grate is "Made in the USA" and will last a liftime! Just buy it!

We'd been in our house for 20 years when our old grate broke and we began searching for a new grate. Came across Woodland Direct and they seemed to have quality grates so ended up purchasing the 32" stronghold ember lifetime fireplace grate. After taking measurements of our fireplace I determined that was the correct size for our fireplace. I hate to admit it but we'd actually had a smaller grate that we picked up 20 years ago and didn't realize it all these years how the bigger grate fit the fireplace. Much nicer! The order arrived promptly. I'm very happy with the grate. It is heavy duty and is a bit taller than our older grate. We really like the more substantial profile. After readying about the screen on the bottom of the grate that supposedly keeps the embers from falling to the floor of the fireplace and more completely burns the wood I decided to include that feature. It's a really nice feature and to my surprise I didn't know what I was missing. We used to get quite a bit of ash under the grate which would mix with embers from the fire. I thought that was normal. Now we get very little ash as the embers are kept above the screen and ash only falls in small amounts beneath the screen to the floor of the fireplace. I believe the comments on the grate on their website stated that the screen made the wood burn more fully before falling to the floor of the fireplace and this is certainly the case. It's a very simple design option but one I would recommend highly as it's led to a lot less ash buildup in the fireplace. If you are shopping for a fireplace grate I would recommend Woodland Direct. Quality of grate was very good, shipping was prompt, great product selection and pricing based on the browsing I did online seemed competitive.

Everything we wanted, very robust yet elegant. The mesh underneath really helps keep the fire hot, burns longer, and with virtually no wood left I burnt. Great product!! Highly recommend!

Very high quality built

My wife and I say thank you for building such a high quality product. We use it outside on an old cement pad for outdoor wood fire burning even during the winter. This grate is designed and built not to warp. Thanks again for building a heavy duty grate.

What I was looking for 👍🏼

This grate is perfect! It sits high off the bottom of the hearth giving plenty of room for multiple fires without cleaning ash to free up air flow. Very robust and holds the embers perfectly. Hopefully it'll last longer than the cheap one I had in before.

Good Looking Grate

Just received this grate and really like the looks of it. From appearances (and from picking it up!), it's very heavy duty. Dimensions appear to match what was advertised and it fits perfectly in my 120 year-old fireplace, including just enough clearance for my extra-large andirons, exactly as specified by Woodland. Unfortunately, I won't be able to try it out until October at the earliest, but based on looks I expect to get many years of use out of it.
